This policy explains what Retext ("we") collects and why. Short version: your images stay on your device, and we collect almost nothing else.
Images you open in Retext are processed in your browser. They are not uploaded to us or to any server we run, and we cannot see them.
Retext saves a few small items in your browser's local storage: how many free downloads you have used, and, after you buy, your license key and a temporary order reference. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics. Clearing your browser data removes these items, and you may lose your license key on that device, so keep a copy of it.
Before you leave for checkout, Retext saves your image and edits in IndexedDB on this device so you can restore them when you return in the same browser. The draft is never uploaded. It is deleted after you restore or discard it, replace the image, or reopen Retext more than seven days after it was saved. Clearing this site’s browser data also removes it. App files, fonts and OCR data are cached for offline use.
Fonts you import are loaded on this device. Saving a .retext project downloads a file containing the original image, text edits and imported fonts. These files are not uploaded. Your checkout recovery draft also includes imported fonts so edits can be restored correctly. Delete downloaded projects yourself when you no longer need them.
If you enable Autosave in Tools, Retext stores one recent project in IndexedDB on this device. It includes the original image, edited text, selection settings and fonts used in the project. It is never uploaded. You can disable autosave or delete the local autosave in Tools; clearing site data also removes it. Recovery is offered for up to seven days, and an expired autosave is removed when Retext is next opened. A downloaded .retext project remains your portable backup.
Payments are handled by Stripe (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay) or NOWPayments (cryptocurrency). They collect the payment details you enter, under their own privacy policies. We never see or store your card number. Stripe or NOWPayments may share with us your email address, the amount, and a payment status so we can confirm your purchase and help with problems.
To start a checkout and confirm a license, the app contacts a small server we run on Cloudflare. It handles order references and license keys. Like any web server, it may briefly process technical data such as your IP address, and our host Cloudflare may keep standard access logs. The old GitHub Pages address provides local project/license recovery; GitHub may keep access logs for that page. Browser storage is separate for each address.
We use it only to provide Retext, confirm purchases, prevent fraud and abuse, and answer your messages. We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
Retext is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
You can clear the data stored in your browser at any time. To ask what we hold about a purchase, or to ask us to delete it, email us. Where the law gives you additional rights, we will honor them.
